Description:

Beatrice began her career in a salon in her hometown of Monterey Park, California.  In the mid-eighties she found work on music videos and  commercials, but it wasn’t long before she was being sought out for both independent film and series television. Eager to work on a larger and more complex scale, she eventually applied for entry into the Hair and Makeup Union and started working on larger studio projects.  Her resume ranges from "Leaving Las Vegas" a two million dollar indie, to "The Mummy Returns", a hundred and twenty million dollar blockbuster.  Among her other notable projects, both large and small, have been “Eraser,” “Clear and Present Danger,” “The Scorpion King,” “The Craft,” “Chaplin,” and “Frida.”  She has also worked several seasons on various television series such as "Cybill" and "Spin City".   Beatrice is a member of both the Los Angeles and New York chapters of the Makeup and Hairstylists Union, two cities where she has worked regularly, as well dozens of other locales as far flung as London, Prague, Morocco and Mexico, to name just a few.  She was also last year’s keynote speaker at the National Hispanic Women’s Conference held in Pasadena California.

In 2003 Beatrice was honored with both the BAFTA, the British Academy Award, as well as an Oscar for her work on 'FRIDA'.  She had many challenges in helping to bring Frida Kahlo as well as all of the movie’s other characters to life, such as period hairstyling spanning four decades, eleven lace front wigs on principal actors, various partial wigs and hairpieces, also on principal actors, Frida's own unique hairstyles and the progressive aging of many of the film’s characters.  Beatrice has said that she believes the long road she has traveled throughout her career helped prepare her win the highest honor someone in her profession can receive: “I started out working on everyday people who were spending their hard-earned money for something to make them feel special, it was then that I realized the kind of impact something like hair can have on people.  If done with care it can create a feeling, evoke a time, set a mood.”  It is this same belief that has allowed Beatrice to reach this point in her career.
